Kelly Hoppen

Kelly Hoppen

Kelly Hoppen has been designing interiors around the word for a very long time. She has a fun ‘nick name’, as the ‘Queen of taupe’! This is why her interiors are so popular, gentle, soothing and classic. Lots of black, white, taupe and cream and windows dominated by Roman blinds and sheer curtains in similar shades.

Kelly’s style has been so copied and repeated around the design and renovating world,  truly positive sign of success and no greater form of flattery, can one achieve.

Like most successful designers they tend to repeat the formula with each new commission. Kelly likes to use a lot of repetition in her rooms, lots of  layering of the same element, be it lights, cushions, vases and plants . Also, over sizing of these elements at the same time. This give the room a cosy and luxurious feel ( because they are very expensive rooms…!) Most of us would not put so much in one room, however, this is her ‘signature look’ that has made her an international designer

Occasionally, you will find a splash of bright colour, but it is rare and in control.

Black and white/cream is a very popular repeated style. I find she tends to style the whole house to the same gentle flowing scheme, unlike other designers who mix it up in each room. It’s a consistent and beautiful result. Also, for us in the real world one that we can apply to our humble abodes!

Repeating the same decorative element, lighting, vases, often oversized. Casual in the kitchen , glamorous in the dinning room…. fabulously effective.

High contrast, bold monochrome. White walls and black shutters. Very clean and  glamorous and very easy to achieve in your home. This look could very easily be achieved with dark venetian blinds, a cost effective alternative. All the dark browns are very ‘on trend’ now in interiors, in floors shutters and blinds to achieve the same look.

Layering is a designer favourite. Here curtains with woven wood screen blinds behind. I will be adding these to the website very soon. The effect is lovely, with filtered light coming in but good privacy for a bedroom. This look can be achieved with a screen roller blind or a light filtering fabric roller blind.

All these options are very popular and will allow you to layer your windows.sheer roman blind

Light filtering fabric roman blind in the lounge room, see how you achieve a soft glow with the fabric, it will give you adequate privacy at night, but not full privacy.

boat timber venetians

Oh… and then there is the boat!

How lovely is that? Here Kelly has used dark timber venetian blinds. A cost effective and practical option for a room on solid ground too! I think they look quite ‘cool’. Venetians have been around for so long, but they can now give your room a very glamorous finish if you select well. They can give a similar ‘look’ to shutters, but without the expense. In this room they are quite a feature and finish the room nicely. Blindswholesale have a 63mm Visionwood range, with a huge colour choice to choose from to get a similar effect.
